So I've been working on a couple of projects lately which I'll tell you about when I can. I've also been getting my Adana 8 x 5 printing press up and running. It's a lovely machine and is working beautifully so far. The renovation was long overdue but in the end took little effort; it's previous owner looked after it well.
I was lucky enough to have been given her/it (I'm pretty attached already) by a nice gentleman who I met at a Christmas party which I reluctantly attended after being roped in by a friend. I was a student at the time and we got chatting about University and printmaking and he asked wether I was interested in taking on an old press that was living in a cupboard, no longer used, at home. Of course I said yes! He had been a printer at a letterpress and litho studio in Highgate which closed down and he took the Adana home with him. It was in excellent condition and he gave me all sorts of furniture, quoins, type and other bits and bobs too.
My first and current job on the press is to print wedding invites for my brother-in-law and his lovely fiancee Jen. Got to admit that cleaning up is a bit of a nightmare in our small kitchen sink but after seeing how quickly and effortlessly she can churn out 100 invites, the inconvenience seems worth putting up with, for now at least. Here's to more lovely printed stuff on that beautiful, fussy little machine!
