The Printing Bike Project is an idea thought up by our pal Nick Hand from from the Letterpress Collective and his friend Robin Mather, who creates bespoke bikes. The pair intend to build a bike to carry an Adana 8x5 printing press, as well as inks, paper and type and plan to cycle down through England and France into Southern Germany to finally arrive in Mainz, where Johannes Gutenberg invented printing with moveable type in 1440.
Along the way they will meet artists, writers and poets, who will describe the journey using illustration and word. Nick and Robin will print the original artworks on postcards and post these to supporters of the project there and then; creating and sending between 10-15 postcards along the route of this inky adventure.
I am delighted to have been asked to take part in the project as one of their artists, to meet them on the journey and create a piece of work to be printed on the bike press. If you would like to support their project on Kickstarter (and you definitely should) click here.
