Recently I worked with the amazing people at Hiut Denim to create two illustrated leather label designs for their limited edition 'short run' jeans.
Only 100 pairs of jeans are created by the Grand Masters for each short run, made with beautiful denim from the best mills around the world. Every pair is finished off with the leather label exclusive to the batch.
The inspiration for the most recent (the motorcycle) was 'rebellious spirit' with the guys at Hiut citing James Dean and Rebel Without a Cause as references. The image we went for was a 1955 Triumph T5 Trophy, ridden by Dean (apparently inspired by Marlon Brando's Triumph Thunderbird in The Wild One) who's character Jim Stark popularised denim in the 1950's and solidified it's status as the uniform of the newly birthed American teenager.
The illustrations both started life as pencil drawings which were cut out of lino, printed and scanned in. The designs were then arranged and turned into vector images so the company that creates the metal stamps could translate the image into the physical relief. So pleased with how they turned out!
